Most Samsung models in our catalog exist in two forms: the display bonded to the mid-frame, marked (with Frame), and the bare display, marked (no Frame). They are different part numbers, they are fitted differently, and they are not interchangeable on a parts list. This page sets out what each contains, when a workshop should order which, and where frameless fitting goes wrong.
What "with frame" includes
A with-frame assembly is the panel, touch layer and display flex already laminated to the phone's chassis at the factory. On the Galaxy S24 Ultra, that is GH82-33396C/33386C in Titanium Yellow, GH82-33396B/33386B in Titanium Black/Blue/Green and GH82-33396A/33386A in Titanium Gray/Orange/Violet. The chassis is colour-matched, which is why one model can have three with-frame codes. On entry models such as the Galaxy A03 (GH81-21626A) or A05 (GH81-24189A) the with-frame unit is often the only form supplied. The battery, cameras, mainboard, sub-board, buttons, SIM tray and rear cover are not part of the assembly; they move over from the customer's device.
What "without frame" includes
A frameless unit is the display panel with touch and flex, intended to be laminated into the customer's existing chassis. For the S24 Ultra the frameless listing is GH82-33385A/33402A, a single code covering all colours because no coloured metal is involved. Other examples: GH96-13030A for the S20 Plus and GH96-15077D for the A23 4G. Foldable inner screens follow the same logic; the Z Flip inner panel appears as GH96-13019A/14066A "(no Frame) Inner". Listings do not show whether adhesive is included with a frameless panel; ask sales to confirm before you order.
When each form is the right choice
| Situation on the bench | Order | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Frame bent, corners dented, side rails scratched | With frame | A new panel in a distorted chassis will not seat flat and may crack again. |
| Frame intact, screen cracked or display faulty | Without frame | Keeps the original chassis and colour; one code regardless of colour. |
| Water damage with corrosion in the chassis | With frame | Replaces contaminated metal together with the display. |
| Fleet or insurance work with fixed turnaround | With frame | Predictable fitting time, fewer process variables. |
| Foldable inner display | As listed (Inner / Outer) | Foldables use their own inner/outer and camera/no-camera variants. |
Labour time and workflow
With a with-frame assembly the job is a transplant: open the rear cover, move the mainboard, battery, cameras, sub-board, speaker and vibration motor into the new chassis, re-seal the rear cover. The time is driven by how many components the model has and how the battery is secured; the display itself needs no handling beyond removing the protective film.
With a frameless panel the job is a lamination: heat the old panel, separate it from the chassis without bending the rails, remove every trace of old adhesive, clean the seating surface, position the new panel against the earpiece, sensor and camera cut-outs, apply even pressure and let the adhesive cure. Expect more bench time per unit and a need for a heating station, cutting wire or blade and an alignment mould. For a technician who does both routinely, a frameless fit on a glued-glass model takes noticeably longer than a frame swap.
Risks of frameless fitting
- Panel fracture on the way in. OLED panels are thin; uneven pressure during seating cracks them. Test the panel before seating it; how damage that occurs during fitting is treated is set out in our Terms and Conditions.
- Flex damage. Routing the display flex through the chassis slot and folding it to the board is the point where tears happen.
- Adhesive residue. Old glue left in the channel lifts one edge of the glass, giving a visible gap, touch dead zones near the edge and no ingress resistance.
- Hidden frame distortion. A chassis that looks straight can be twisted by a fraction of a millimetre; the new panel then shows light bleed or pressure marks after a week.
- Misalignment with sensors. A panel seated slightly off centre covers the proximity sensor or shifts the under-display fingerprint zone.
What is in the service pack box
An original service pack arrives in the manufacturer's sealed box. The label carries the code with the colour letter, the model code (e.g. SM-S928) and the colour description. Inside is the assembly with a protective film on the glass; leave the film on until the final test. Listings do not show whether adhesive or rear-cover tape is in the box; ask sales to confirm before you order. Assembled (ASMBLD) and renewed (RNW) units are original modules that are not supplied as factory-sealed service packs. For the difference between these tiers see quality tiers explained.
Listing conventions you will see
- (with Frame) / (no Frame): as above.
- Inner / Outer: foldable main and cover displays, e.g. GH96-13380A Z Flip Black Outer.
- (with Camera) / (no Camera): whether the front camera module is bonded into the assembly, e.g. GH82-22215A/22347A versus GH82-27350A/27351A on the Z Flip.
- (big Connector) / (small Connector): two flex connector sizes on the Galaxy A01, GH81-18597A and GH81-18209A. Check the board socket before ordering.
- Eu Code / Non Eu Code: regional assembly variants; see reading part numbers.
Need a second opinion?
Send a photo of the damaged device and the code on the old flex to sales3@apexgmbh.com, or call or message us on WhatsApp at +43 660 2015298, and we will tell you which form to put on the list. How to request a quote, open a trade account or report a faulty unit is covered in the wholesale FAQ.
